Apple’s macOS Sonoma update is now available, bringing several new features and improvements to Mac computers in 2023. Some notable additions include Game Mode for Apple Silicon devices, interactive desktop widgets, videoconferencing enhancements, and more.
To install macOS Sonoma, you’ll need a relatively recent Mac computer. It is compatible with MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models from 2018 and newer, iMac and Mac Pro devices from 2019 and later, the Mac Studio from 2022 onward, and the 2017 iMac Pro.
To initiate the download and installation, follow these steps:
1. Go to System Settings on your Mac.
2. Select “General.”
3. Choose “Software Update.”
While many of macOS Sonoma’s significant improvements are behind the scenes, there are several exciting new features, such as high-resolution screensavers featuring real-world locations, an updated login screen, interactive widgets, videoconferencing enhancements (including fun effects), Safari profiles for keeping work and personal tasks separate, the ability to install web apps in the Dock, inline predictive text, and more. Additionally, there’s a new Game Mode designed to optimize system resources for smoother gaming performance and reduce latency for AirPods and wireless controllers.
