Following the recent launch of Gmail for Wear OS, the eagerly anticipated companion app, Google Calendar, has now been released. This addition provides smartwatch users with convenient access to their daily schedules.
Upon installation, you’ll find the Calendar app in the launcher, essentially an enhanced version of the Schedule view present on smartphones. When you open the app, it displays a daily calendar with detailed event information, location details, notes, notifications, and more. You have the option to adjust your attendance for saved events or delete them entirely as originally spotted by 9to5Google.
For those who prefer a larger screen, the Calendar app allows you to access any date or event on your smartphone. Additionally, specific events like holidays and birthdays may appear as background images in the main feed of the app. The integration of Google Tasks enables you to mark events as complete.
Similar to many smartwatch apps, Google Calendar is primarily for viewing and not for creating new events or tasks. However, two new Wear OS tiles are available for quickly checking upcoming events and tasks without launching the full app.
Google Calendar for Wear OS is now accessible for download on the Play Store. You can search for “Calendar” in the wearable version of the Play Store or remotely install it through the app listing.
As Wear OS 3 and Wear OS 4 continue to introduce new features, older smartwatch operating systems are losing some functionalities. Google recently announced that its proprietary voice assistant would no longer be compatible with watches running older versions preceding Wear OS 3.
