The M3 MacBook Pro from Apple is anticipated to make its debut in early 2024, with the M3 MacBook Air expected to follow a few months later, as per insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Gurman had earlier projected a potential October launch for a MacBook Air featuring the new chip, but he now suggests that the release appears to be moving towards a timeframe between the upcoming spring and early summer at the earliest.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman reveals that the 13-inch and 15-inch M3 MacBook Air models are currently in the engineering verification test (EVT) phase. On the other hand, the M3 MacBook Pros have progressed further and are approaching the mass production phase. According to Gurman, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, equipped with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, have reached the DVT stage, which stands for design validation test. This development places them on track for a release between early and spring 2024. It’s worth noting that Apple introduced its 2023 MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in January.
Gurman’s report also contradicts recent rumors suggesting that Apple will unveil new iPads in the current week. Reports from Supercharged and 9to5Mac indicated that the iPad Air and iPad mini would receive chip upgrades, with the former adopting the M2 chip and the latter upgrading to the A16 Bionic. In his report, Gurman acknowledges that upgrades of this nature are indeed in the works but states, “I don’t believe any substantial updates are imminent.”
