While Google’s “Live Translate” feature is currently exclusive to Pixel devices, Samsung is gearing up to introduce a similar feature on its upcoming phones, likely part of the “Galaxy S24” family set to debut early next year. Samsung’s “Galaxy AI” will leverage both on-device AI developed by Samsung and cloud-based AI from external providers. Among its offerings is the “AI Live Translate Call,” a feature that displays real-time translations in a chat log format during phone calls, as demonstrated in a screenshot featuring a conversation between an English speaker in New York and a Korean speaker in Seoul. Additionally, the tool includes a convenient “add event” button for quick calendar scheduling when a time and date are mentioned in the conversation.
While details about Galaxy AI are limited, Wonjoon Choi, EVP and Head of R&D, Mobile eXperience Business, asserts that it will revolutionize the way we perceive our phones. Although there is no confirmation about whether Galaxy AI will incorporate Samsung’s Gauss generative AI capability, the executive’s statement and recent offerings from Google suggest the possibility of a comprehensive feature set in the Galaxy S24 lineup next year.
