Google has enhanced the capabilities of its Bard AI chatbot, enabling more in-depth and meaningful conversations related to YouTube videos. In a recent update log for its experimental features, the company announced the expansion of Bard’s YouTube extension, allowing the generative AI to “understand some video content” when activated. This update enables users to inquire about specific details in videos, such as the number of eggs used in a recipe or the names of tools in DIY tutorials. Android Authority suggests that Bard can also provide information on restaurant locations mentioned in food reviews or the origin of a particular cuisine.

Bard initially gained access to YouTube data in September, integrating with various Google products like Docs, Maps, Lens, Flights, and Hotels. However, it couldn’t analyze a video’s content or respond to detailed questions about it. Google implemented this update in response to users expressing a desire for more profound engagement with YouTube videos. The company mentioned that these changes represent the “first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos,” suggesting the potential for further advancements in video analysis technology. To utilize this feature, users need to activate the YouTube extension on Bard’s web portal to initiate conversations about YouTube videos.
