In conjunction with updates to iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, Apple has introduced the latest version of tvOS. The primary modification in this release involves a redesign of the core Apple TV app.
The notable change includes the addition of a sidebar that seamlessly integrates content from Apple’s services (such as Apple TV+, MLS Season Pass, and a Store for buying and renting popular movies) with third-party channels and apps like Disney+ and Max. This alteration aims to enhance navigation and discoverability while retaining the familiar tile browsing format on the homepage, consistent with industry standards.
On living room devices, such as Apple TV hardware and the app on smart TVs and other platforms, the sidebar will now incorporate user profiles. Apple emphasizes that this feature facilitates swift user switching, providing personalized recommendations across the app and in the Up Next section. Additionally, the Watch Now section has been rebranded as Home.
To purchase or rent movies and TV shows, users can now visit the Store tab within the Apple TV app. Starting today, users of Apple TV 4K and HD devices will be redirected from the iTunes Movies and TV Shows apps to the Store tab in the Apple TV app for managing their purchases. This change also applies to the iTunes Store app on iPhone and iPad.
Furthermore, Apple TV 4K devices now support answering FaceTime calls directly, including FaceTime audio calls.
