Android Gets Smarter: Microsoft’s Copilot AI Lands on Your Phone

Microsoft

Microsoft’s Copilot tool, the AI chatbot capable of assisting with tasks ranging from coding to composing marketing emails, is now available on Android mobile devices. Powered by OpenAI’s latest models GPT-4 and DALL-E 3, Copilot can generate images based on simple text descriptions and requests. The app, which can be obtained from the Google Play Store, is free to download and doesn’t necessitate a Microsoft account for sign-in.

The release of the mobile version of Microsoft’s Copilot (formerly Bing Chat) was relatively low-key, lacking significant promotion or formal announcements compared to the earlier unveiling of Bing Chat on mobile devices. Neowin users on X noticed the app in the Play Store earlier this month. However, Copilot is currently not accessible on iOS, and Microsoft has not provided a specific release date for it.

The expansion of Copilot to mobile devices, starting with Android, aligns with Microsoft’s strategy of broadening its reach. Previously introduced on Windows 10 after its debut on Edge, Microsoft 365 products, and Windows 11, Copilot’s availability on mobile adds another 1 billion eligible devices to its user base. This reflects Microsoft’s clear commitment to expansion, coinciding with recent updates to Copilot, including video summarization capability and a feature for creating songs.
