The latest iteration of Apple’s AirPods Pro is currently available for purchase at $190 on both Amazon and Target, a mere dollar higher than the lowest price we’ve ever observed. We’ve witnessed this new model briefly hitting this price point several times since its release in September. While there’s a possibility it could see further price reductions during Black Friday, the current discount already offers savings of $60 compared to Apple’s regular retail price. Furthermore, this deal surpasses the one we spotted over the past weekend by $10.
To provide a quick reminder, this particular AirPods Pro variant includes a USB-C charging case, aligning with the latest lineup of iPhones. It also carries a higher IP54 dust-resistance rating and will offer compatibility with lossless audio when used in conjunction with the forthcoming Vision Pro headset. Besides these distinctions, it largely mirrors the Lightning-based model that Apple introduced last year.
This continuity isn’t a drawback, though. When we initially reviewed the previous model, we awarded it a score of 88, applauding its efficient active noise cancellation (ANC), warm and pleasing sound quality, excellent transparency mode, and seamless pairing with other Apple devices. Optimal enjoyment is typically reserved for devoted Apple enthusiasts, as features like Find My tracking and hands-free Siri can be advantageous. A recent software update even introduced several helpful features, including an “Adaptive Audio” mode that blends ANC and transparency modes based on your surroundings and can automatically lower the volume when you begin conversing with others.
While we don’t declare the AirPods Pro as the absolute best wireless earbuds overall due to their roughly six-hour battery life, limited EQ customization options, and a slight learning curve for touch controls, they continue to be an enticing choice for those deeply entrenched in the Apple ecosystem. This is why they hold the title of “best for iOS” in our wireless earbuds buying guide.
One minor consideration is a recent Bloomberg report revealing Apple’s plans to overhaul its entire AirPods lineup starting next year. This refresh is expected to introduce an AirPods version with ANC and a revamped AirPods Pro, potentially incorporating new hearing health features. However, most of these headphones aren’t anticipated to be available until late 2024, with the new AirPods Pro scheduled for a 2025 release.
