The Game Awards’ milestone tenth edition is imminent, set to unfold on Thursday evening with host Geoff Keighley gracing the stage at 7:30 PM ET. Amidst a plethora of trailers, announcements, gameplay clips, and speeches, six titles will vie for the esteemed Game of the Year award. Engadget will be there to cover all the significant developments in real-time, and you can follow the event below.
Leading the nominations, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 stand out with eight nods each. They face stiff competition for the Game of the Year title from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (seven nominations), Super Mario Bros. Wonder (five), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (five), and the Resident Evil 4 remake (four).
Nintendo, enjoying a standout year even as the Switch possibly approaches its final act, secures the highest number of nominations—15 in total, the most among all publishers. Following closely, Sony claims 13 nominations, while Microsoft, encompassing Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, earns 10. In a unique position, Epic Games, the sole non-hardware-producing publisher in the top four, secures nine nominations.
The awards ceremony encompasses a total of 31 awards, spanning diverse categories such as Best Action Game, Best Esports Coach, and Best Independent Game. The indie category sparks intrigue this year, with the inclusion of the beloved Dave the Diver, despite being produced by a subsidiary of Nexon, a corporate giant with an $18.3 billion market cap.
